How I can help

You don’t need to have all the answers to begin

You may be facing difficulties in your relationships, sexuality or emotional wellbeing. Perhaps past experiences or questions of identity, belonging and cultural adjustment are shaping how you feel today. Therapy offers space to understand these experiences, explore recurring patterns and consider what you would like to change. I welcome individuals, couples and families, including teenagers, adults and older adults.

Individual therapy

Explore difficult feelings, life changes and patterns that may be holding you back.

Explore this approach

We can explore anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, phobias, OCD, bereavement, emotional regulation and the impact of trauma or abuse. Cultural identity, migration and adjustment can also be part of our work.

Couples therapy & counselling

Make space for the conversations that are difficult to have on your own.

Explore this approach

Together, we can explore recurring conflict, emotional distance, infidelity, separation, parenting and changes in your relationship. Our work can help you understand patterns of relating, communicate more openly and develop practical ways forward. Family relationships can also be explored in therapy.

Sex & psychosexual therapy

Talk openly about intimacy, sexual concerns and the connections between them.

Explore this approach

A respectful, non-judgmental space to explore sexual concerns, intimacy and desire, with attention to your experiences, relationships and cultural context. Together, we can consider what may be contributing to your difficulties and what change would mean for you.

We are born in relationship, we are wounded in relationship, and we can be healed in relationship.

Dr. Harville Hendrix

I’m Shahrzad, a systemic and psychosexual therapist with over 20 years of experience. I work in person in London and online with individuals, couples and families in different countries. I welcome people from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities, and take account of how your relationships, culture and life experiences shape what you bring to therapy.

My approach is integrative, drawing on systemic, psychosexual, relational, existential and psychodynamic perspectives. Rather than following a fixed formula, I work collaboratively with you to understand your experiences in the context of your relationships, personal history and culture. We move at your pace, with respect, care and curiosity.

I am a BACP-registered psychotherapist (MBACP) and a member of EAP, EFTA and COSRT. My training includes systemic family therapy and institutional intervention (2008), couples therapy at NAOS (2014), and psychosexual and relationship therapy (2016).

Before we begin

What happens in the first session?

In our first session, we’ll explore what brings you to therapy, what you hope might change and any questions you have. Together, we’ll consider how we might work and whether my approach feels right for you. You can first arrange a free 15-minute consultation.

Can we work in my preferred language?

I offer therapy in English, French and Persian. You can let me know your preferred language when you get in touch.

Do you accept insurance?

I accept Cigna, and Vitality. Please contact me and your insurer to confirm cover, authorisation and any payment arrangements before your first session.

How can I pay?

Payment options include bank transfer, cash, PayPal and major cards, including Visa, Mastercard and American Express. We can agree the arrangements when we organise your session.

How long will therapy take?

The length and frequency of therapy depend on your needs and what you hope to work on. We discuss this together and review how the work is progressing, rather than assuming that everyone needs the same number of sessions.

What is sex therapy, and can I come on my own?

Sex therapy, also called psychosexual therapy, offers space to explore sexual concerns, desire and intimacy. I work with individuals as well as couples. As a sex therapist, I consider your experiences, relationships and cultural context, and we agree together what you would like to work on.

Do we need to be married to have couples counselling?

No. Couples therapy is for partners who want to explore their relationship, whether or not they are married. We can work on communication, recurring conflict, emotional distance, trust, intimacy or changes in the relationship. I offer couples counselling in West London (NW10) and online.

Let’s start with a conversation.
